MB-4 Sealer for Stone

MB-4 Sealer for Stone

It’s a cutting-edge technology product based on the latest generation of fluoro-chemical (fluorocarbon alphatic resin) suspended in a solution of water.

MB-4 is the only water-carried fluorocarbon-based impregnating sealer on the market that can claim to be excellent oil repellent as well as excellent water repellent! A special “addition” to the formula with another resin that was (and still is) considered “non-compatible” in the chemical community is what makes the difference! Actually, what makes the difference is our advanced chemistry department that does not believe in the “It can’t be done” school of thought!

Effectively inhibits liquids from being absorbed by natural stones, including Marble, Granite, Limestone, Sandstone and Serpentine (Green Marble), thus greatly reducing the possibility of staining. It is also effective on most terracotta, concrete and also seals grout. Unlike Silicon or Siloxane-based impregnators, it doesn’t need periodic application! The first application(s) will protect your valuable stone for many years to come! (Indoors)

A word of caution: - Most penetrating sealers are designed to be either water or oil resistant not water and oil proof.

MB-4 (fluorocarbon alphatic resin) Sealer has been formulated to be an excellent oil repellent as well as an excellent water repellent. However, if a liquid is left on the stone long enough, it will eventually penetrate and stain. Penetrating sealers are designed to give you time to clean up the mess before staining occurs. It will not turn your stone into a bullet proof vest, Nor are they designed to prevent acid etching; in other words, if accidental spillage occurs from lemonade, orange juice, red/white wine, etc the surface of calcium carbonate based rocks (marble/limestone) will etch (corrode) the surface.

Outdoor Application

Limestone and marble (Calcium Carbonate based rocks) dissolves in rainwater more easily than other rocks. Rainwater picks up a small amount of carbon dioxide during its passage through the air, and that turns it into a very weak acid. Calcite rocks are vulnerable to acid. That explains why limestone buildings and marble statues suffer from acid rainfall. Now do you think that a sealer, any sealer will prevent such damages occurring? Hardly… When sealers are applied outdoor, the sealers performance will be short lived. Sealing outdoors is often a waste of time and money, especially if a stone is not subject to true staining occurring, such as coffee, tea or cooking oil.

In conclusion, when properly and intelligently applied, impregnator/sealers do solve the problem of medium to high absorbency rate stones when installed in an environment where staining is a distinct possibility, but that’s all there is to them. We must remember that stone is a natural product, and no blanket rule ever applies to natural product, however! Once again, buying into the possible suggestion that a sealer can do more than that will inevitably lead to wrong decisions, which in turn will only lead to disappointment.
